Asphalt Pavement Crack Repair & Gypsy Rigs - Scams

People in the industry often take advantage of those who don’t know any better – charging for services that aren’t necessary or providing a defective product.

Asphalt pavement repairs are essential for long-lasting pavement. Hiring a reputable contractor for crack repairs and other maintenance is critical. While looking for a contractor, you need to watch out for scammers who will do a poor job or overcharge you. Unscrupulous contractors play various scams to cheat property owners of their hard-earned money.

Gypsy Rig Scams

A gypsy rig scam is when a group of fraudulent contractors set shop in town for a few days. They’ll go door-to-door or set up on busy street corners, offering full-service asphalt pavement repair services, such as crack repairs.

These scammers don’t tell you they’re not licensed or insured. In many cases, the scammers don’t even have the proper permits to work in your town.

Even if they were to do a good job, it would only be temporary. These types of jobs require experience and precision to do correctly. They are more likely to cause damage to your property than fix it.

If you’re approached by one of these groups, say no, and find a reputable local company you can trust. Before hiring, please research and ensure they are certified, licensed, and insured.

Don’t let the scammers ruin your property and waste your hard-earned money. Be clever and only work with those you can trust.

Advanced Payment Scam

The asphalt pavement repair isn’t the only scam you must watch out for. The advanced payment scam is another common one.

In this case, the company will require you to pay for the entire job upfront before they start any work. The scammers may even give you a discount if you do this. But once they have your money, they disappear and are never heard from again.

Don’t let yourself be taken advantage of by these unscrupulous individuals. Only hire companies that use legitimate billing practices and never pay for a job upfront.

Leftover Asphalt Scam

Some unscrupulous companies will try to sell leftover asphalt from a previous job to unsuspecting customers by telling them it’s a great deal. They may even say that it’s the same asphalt type used on your driveway and that it will last just as long.

Don’t fall for this scam. The leftover asphalt is not the same quality as what was initially used on your driveway and will not last as long.
